SYDNEY, Australia -- For all you Aussie and Kiwi gamers out there who think you have what it takes to compete with some of the best players in the world, don't miss this opportunity to show your stuff. From March 31 to April 6 Ben Thomas, the General Manager of Championship Gaming Series’ acclaimed Sydney Underground team will be on site at Gamerthon for the 2008 Aussie Scouting Event to evaluate players and select members of a team that will compete in the CGS 2008 season.
The Gamerthon festival will be a big part of Melbourne's Anything Interactive National Cup (AINC), the largest eSports event in Australia. Gamerthon includes open tournaments in Dead or Alive 4 and FIFA 08, each with a $1,000 (AUD) prize pool, and a closed Counter-Strike: Source tournament, with a $10,000 (AUD) prize pool, hosted by AINC, for 20 pre-qualified teams. These prize terms are not in any way affiliated with the CGS.
"I'm very excited about having the chance to scout players at an event on local soil. Australia and New Zealand have a great wealth of natural talent and it's events like Gamerthon that allow up-and-coming players to make a name for themselves," says Thomas. "This is a great opportunity for the region's gamers to play in front of large crowds for respectable prize money and have a shot at being the next Underground superstar."
All event attendees that wish to be eligible for scouting need to complete the online registration process for their respective tournament on the Gamerthon website and MUST bring a valid passport to the event.
Participation in the Dead or Alive 4 and FIFA 08 tournaments each require a $30 (AUD) admission fee, and with a limited number of spots available in each tournament, we recommend that you sign up today.
The 2008 Aussie Scouting Event will be modeled after the same structure used by other professional sports leagues. "Players will be evaluated on a number of factors including natural talent, integrity, personality and marketability," says Thomas. "Winning your tournament doesn't necessarily mean you're getting drafted. In order to pull on the Underground jersey players will need to demonstrate more than pure talent."
At the end of the day's games on April 6th, Ben Thomas will be announcing the entire 2008 Sydney Underground roster at a live press conference. Details will be posted to the Gamerthon website.
