New World, the parent company of the Cyberathlete Professional League, has announced that Joe Garagiola, Jr., Senior Vice President of Baseball Operations for Major League Baseball, has joined the Board of Directors. Garagiola is a household name in the world of baseball when his father, Joe Sr., played in the MLB from 1946 and casted the MLB for 30 years on NBC. Adding Garagiola Jr. to the Board of Directors was an unexpected move, but it should be very interesting to see where the CPL will go with this in 2007.
The Cyberathlete Professional League's parent company announced today that Joe Garagiola, Jr., Senior Vice President of Baseball Operations for Major League Baseball, has joined its Board of Directors.
Mr. Garagiola, holds the distinction of assembling the fastest World Series winner in expansion baseball history. He fine-tuned a club that had finished 12 games out of the hunt in 2000 after winning 100 games and the National League West Division Championship the year before.
Garagiola's effort was congratulated by the highest of powers when President George W. Bush invited the organization to the White House on December 13, 2001. During the course of the visit, the President couldn't resist bringing up a comparison between himself and Joe Jr. stating, "I've always been suspicious of guys who have a famous father," referring in jest to his own father the former President and Joe's dad who made a name for himself both on and off the field.
Mr. Garagiola, Jr., graduated from the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, IN, earning a B.A. cum laude in 1972 and earned a law degree from Georgetown University Law Center (J.D., 1975).
