Arguably one of the most influential minds in the world of video games, Shigeru Miyamoto has recently been awarded the 92nd most influential person in the world by Time Magazine. Not only that, but professional gamer Fatal1ty took the time to write an article on how Miyamoto helped influence him as a gamer. Miyamoto's long and brilliant career has brought us gaming icons such as Mario, Donkey Kong, Zelda, and Star Fox.
"He showed us that video games are for everyone, something social and active that brings people together" - writes Johnathan "Fatal1ty" Wendel while looking back on how Miyamoto and his work with Nintendo has shaped gaming. Fatal1ty looks back to his humble beginnings playing Nintendo when he was 4 years old, and how even today he uses the Nintendo Wii to play with his grandmother.
"By making video gaming accessible and fun for people like my grandma, Shigeru Miyamoto, 54, head of the Wii design team, has opened the world I live in every day to people who never even wanted to visit it before." Throughout the article, Fatal1ty shows the utmost respect for Miyamoto and what he has accomplished. Fatal1ty closes with the hope that he can one day "contribute just a fraction of what Miyamoto has to video gaming," and that doing so would be an honor.
This has been a very big year for Shigeru Miyamoto, with the success of the Nintendo Wii and The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess. Back in March, Miyamoto received the Lifetime Achievement Award at the Game Developers Choice Awards. As well, last year Time Magazine Asia featured Shigeru Miyamoto in their "60 Years of Asian Heroes."
As always, we here at eSportsTV eagerly anticipate all products and games produced by Miyamoto. As well we look forward to hopefully seeing more video gaming individuals around the world breach The Time's Top 100 List.
